Just a few years ago, the vegan Vietnamese restaurant SOY opened directly next to the 'Volksbühne' in Berlin Mitte. Well, okay, that's not even 100 percent true, because there actually are a few drinks made with honey, but you can order them with agave syrup as well.
During the time of the opening, Julia worked not far away from there, so she found herself more and more often at SOY during her lunch breaks. So often that she could even memorize the numbers of the dishes on the menu. Since then, times changed and we're sadly not working that close by anymore, but we still often eat there and in todays Berlin Guide we'll tell you why.
- Vegan, Vegetarian or Omnivorous: vegan
- Opening hours: Mon-Fri: 12pm-11pm, Sa-Su: 1pm-11pm

Who's with us today?
So TODAY it's actually just the two of us, but we've already been here kind of with every single person we know: all of our friends (all of them!), our families, colleagues, strangers, with everyone! We even celebrated birthdays here because one of the great things about SOY is that you can come here with two or ten people - there's enough space for everybody.
You definitely have to try…
We have two give you two answers to this questions. No wait, make it three answers. #1: Order everything you want - we've never eaten something so far that we didn't like. #2 from Isa: Kho To, which is stuffed tofu stewed in a claypot served with steamed vegetables. Even if I really don't like spicy food, this is just very well seasoned and I especially love the stuffed tofu with a traditional spice blend and seitan. It's also a big portion to get full. #3 from Julia: M2! M2! At least that was the number on the lunch menu for Bun Sa Ot, a lukewarm rice noodle salad with fresh salad, herbs, grilled tofu, and seitan with a lemongrass dressing. I admit that this dish is available in almost every Vietnamese restaurant and I also admit that I order it whenever I can. BUT I just really, really, really love this dish. I love it so much, that I even created a similar recipe for it for the blog. Well…
The best thing about this restaurant is…
This restaurant is just a really pleasant place with delicious food. There's no bells and whistles and no hype, but only a big menu with plenty of tasty vegan food. You can sit inside and outside, you can adjust the dishes according to your wishes and allergies (simply unorder seitan, tofu, etc.) and during lunch you'll get a main dish plus a drink or a starter. May we mention again: M2.
Be prepared for…
It can get pretty busy during lunchtime, so prepare yourself for longer waiting time. If you plan to come with a larger group for dinner, better book a table (that can be easily done online).
